Polarization — right and left, red state and blue state, etc. — wasn't invented yesterday. Ask the scientists studying the bones of prehistoric Europeans. Hundreds of skeletal remains , many from a newly discovered cave in Germany, have produced a startling reminder of the power of social boundaries.

When farmers showed up from the Near East about 7,500 years ago, eager to grow their grains in the soil of Central Europe, they were met by indigenous hunters and gatherers. The locals, apparently, did not welcome them with open arms.

Car with autopilot system unveiled

Updated: 13:58, Saturday October 12, 2013

Toyota has unveiled the next generation of cars featuring an autopilot system that will swerve to avoid collisions without drivers touching the wheel.

The Automated Highway Driving Assist (AHDA) system lets vehicles communicate wirelessly to avoid running into each other while keeping the car in the middle of the road, regardless of how many twists and turns lie ahead.

Although rivals Nissan and Google have been designing self-driving cars for a while, Toyota's AHDA technology could be available to consumers in a few years.

Toyota managing director Moritaka Yoshida said: 'These advanced driving-support technologies prevent human errors, reduce driving stress and help drivers avert accidents, which has a big potential to reduce the number of traffic deaths.'

While drivers will need to remain alert and in general control of their vehicle, the new technology lets them leave most of the work to the autopilot.

Aiken residents can feel good about pumping gas for a while, as the average gas price in South Carolina is 16 cents cheaper than last month.

Gas prices in South Carolina average about $3.09, slightly lower than $3.25 last month and $3.51 a year ago, according to a AAA Carolinas recent report.

Facts About Oil And Gas Prices

• Less than 1 percent of the country currently finds gas prices more than $4 per gallon.
• The national average is $3.380 per gallon, down a half cent since Thursday.
• Nearly 5 percent of the country is under $3 per gallon.
• The most common price in the country is $3.40 per gallon.
• Nearly 5 percent of the country is under $3 per gallon.
• Hawaii is the only state with a median price more than $4 per gallon.
• The median price is down in every state compared to last month and last year.

Angela Vogel Daley, director of communications for AAA Carolinas, said gas prices usually go down after Labor Day when driving season and demand starts to decrease, but the biggest factor may be hurricane season.

"When a hurricane comes through, it impacts gas prices significantly, especially if it hits the Gulf Coast," Daley said. "South Carolina is 44 cents cheaper today than a year ago, and the biggest factor is the hurricanes."

Charleston has the highest gas prices at $3.11; Columbia averages $3.08; Greenville and Spartanburg average $3.06; and Myrtle Beach has the state's lowest average price per gallon at $3.05. While South Carolina has the second-lowest price for gas at $3.09, Missouri reigns as the cheapest at $3.05.

Facebook privacy: Users should check these settings as new changes roll out

Facebook users may be wary after hearing that the social network is following up on a promise to cut a privacy setting that kept user names out of the social network's graph search.By Hayley Tsukayama, Published: October 11 E-mail the writer

Here's a quick guide to what changes are coming and which settings to review as they hit users' accounts.

What's disappearing? The social network announced in December that it was retiringthe option for users to control whether they show up when others type their name into the search bar, but said Thursday that it would finally be notifying those who use it that the setting will be removed. The option, which shows up in privacy settings as "Who can look up your timeline by name?" was already cut for people who weren't using it.

How was that setting useful? It wasn't perfect. It would not have stopped, for example, Facebook users from being able to access those protected profiles if those users had been tagged in a public post or picture. Still, it did help those users to keep a lower profile on the social network, such as those trying to hide their profiles from abusive ex-partners or harassment

Psychic Found Guilty of Stealing $138,000 From Clients

A jury found a Manhattan psychic guilty on Friday of swindling two women out of $138,000 in a case that probed the fine distinction between providing an unusual service and running a confidence scheme.

The fortune teller, Sylvia Mitchell, 39, who plied her trade at the opulent Zena Clairvoyant psychic shop on Seventh Avenue South in Greenwich Village, scowled as the verdict was read, reaching up only once to dab an eye

Mediterranean 'a cemetery' - Maltese PM Muscat

Italian Navy helicopter footage showed the rescue attempt

Malta's prime minister has said European waters close to Africa are turning into a cemetery, after another boat laden with migrants capsized.

Joseph Muscat said Malta felt "abandoned" by the rest of Europe and urged the EU to take action.

Malta and Italy launched a rescue operation after a boat capsized on Friday, killing at least 30 people.

It happened 120km (70 miles) off Lampedusa, the Italian island where at least 300 migrants drowned last week.

On Saturday, rescuers pulled another 20 bodies from the sea, raising the toll from that shipwreck to 359.

The loss of life has renewed the debate within EU member states on migration rules.

Children among dead

In the latest incident, the vessel carrying more than 200 migrants is believed to have encountered difficulties in Maltese waters just before sunset on Friday.

PRESIDENT OBAMA IS WINNING AGAINST HOUSE REPUBLICANS

A Republican friend asked me how I felt, as a Democrat, about President Barack Obama losing the battle over the federal government shutdown. This is definitely where perception loses versus reality.

The polls and American people don't show the president losing the battle with House Republicans, who are also threatening an unprecedented default on America's national debt. Clearly the American people are losing - " and they blame the GOP. In poll after poll, even Republicans blame the GOP. Fellow Republican leaders are saying the Republican approach has been strategically stupid, and was always destined to lose. Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer called the House GOP the "suicide caucus".

According to polls, there are 24 Republican-held House districts that Democrats would have a good chance of winning if the election were held today. And the Democrats need only 17 seats to take over the House.

Why elephants work well with people: They get the point (+video)

Elephants, with no prior training, look when humans point. Researcher says this apparently in-built ability to read human social cues may account for why elephants work well with people.

By Staff writer / October 11, 2013

An elephant walks from a pond during a census at the Amboseli National Park in Kenya on Oct. 9. New research finds that elephants share with humans, but few other other animals, a capacity to see a person point in a direction and turn their attention that way. Researchers note that elephants do things with their trunks that may function as pointing.

Aristotle once described elephants as "the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind," and now researchers appear to have more evidence to support that notion. Elephants seem to share with humans a hard-wired ability see a person point in a direction and turn their attention that way....

NEW DELHI -- India was battered by a massive cyclone Saturday as nearly half a million people evacuated to shelters in vulnerable coastal and low-lying areas amid power outages, large storm surges and canceled trains and flights.

Officials said Cyclone Phailin was expected to affect 12 million people in the eastern states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh with the potential to become a "super cyclone," which occurs when wind speeds exceed 135 miles per hour.

"This is one of the largest evacuations undertaken in India," Shashidhar Reddy, vice chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority, told reporters in the capital, New Delhi. "Our priority is to minimize loss of life."

Country music legend Merle Haggard came to Yreka, Calif. on September 21 to give his night to benefit the Friends of the Fair, a volunteer auxiliary supporting the Siskiyou Golden Fair and the  Siskiyou County Child Abuse Prevention Council. Behind the scenes was Theresa Ann Lane Haggard's 2013 alleged narcotics and drug possession and trafficking arrest by California Highway Patrol, dWebServe releases for the first time today in a breaking YouTube news video.

Her arrest and booking information is not found in the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Jail online records.

"For Siskiyou County locals, it was an astonishing, odd honor to have country music superstar Merle Haggard choose our small, remote county to receive his Fair Aid 2013 Festival," said Daniel Webster, dWebServe editor and publisher in his YouTube news video.  "It gave local bands the extraordinary opportunity to open for Mr. Haggard and pumped several local important organizations with cash."

Rain forced the Haggard soiree into the commercial building, with the audience needing to bring their lawn chairs to sit. It was a sold-out event, according to Webster's news video. The concert was announced days after the dismissal for the 2013 allegednarcotics and drug possession and trafficking felony charges.

Released for the first time publically, Webster shares his interview with Siskiyou County District Attorney Kirk Andrus and the California Highway Patrol. He shares the Lane Haggard arrest, booking information and mugshot from 2013 and releases her 2005 driving under the influence (DUI) arrest.

"The story behind the story is a message of grace, love and hope," said Webster. "But, most surprisingly, it is all turned around and not what it appears to be according to the public information records. I guess, you'll have to watch the YouTube news video to get the real story."

The Merle Haggard benefit concert was announced shortly after the dismissal of the charges by Siskiyou County Superior Court Judge Donald Langford on August 5, 2013.

"If the Haggards had played their cards right with Siskiyou, they probably would never have given us a concert," said the Siskiyou County news editor Webster. "It was an extraordinary story of grace, love and hope, but it was being extended to us from the Haggards, not remotely the other way around."

There is local talk that country music legend Merle Haggard may consider coming back, according to the news video. Webster personally extends his hope and desire for this to happen in the video, as a personal message from Siskiyou County to the Haggards.

Webster was the editor and publisher of the Pioneer Press in Fort Jones, Calif., a small weekly newspaper in northern California. He currently is the editor and publisher of dWebServe.com, a local community news hub for communities around the world.

Opinion: Creator of this universe thought of everything

Posted: 11 Oct 2013 02:09 PM PDT

Dear Editor,
The Creator of this universe thought of everything. In the Nagg Hammadi Library, Jesus told Mary Magdalene that the mind is the most important thing. I believe in Sanskrit it says, "All form is created from the formless." Isn't this true? And done by the spoken word?
In the Bible it talks about "mystery": Christ is within you, as is the Kingdom or Consciousness of God. To me, this implies that each of us has a Christ Self, and Jesus said, "Have I not told you ye are gods?"  Jesus was/is our example of a Christ; Christ is the only Son of God.  [Jesus' Father is also our Father, as Jesus said in his prayer, "Our Father who art in Heaven…."] In Galatians 4:19, "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you." Colossians 1:27, "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." As my son says, "Why do they always like to talk about Jesus suffering instead of his Teachings."
If Jesus was the only Son of God, why on earth would Jesus say, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me [or the Christ within themselves], the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;"
We need to stop putting everything we do that is not right on Jesus shoulders and say he will pay for our sins. In Galatians 6:7 it says, "Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
Right now the Nephilim [Gen 6:4] and Watchers [in the Book of Enoch], [both were rebel angels and the giants in the old chapter of the Bible, who are still reincarnating] are in control with their seed sympathizers and servitors. However, the apathy of counting yourselves as a sinner and that you can never be a Christed One has overtaken the real Love and Wisdom which is our Power to take back our government from these "Giants," who are behind our government and located in the United Nations, as well as in every Nation. This is occurring because we have been emotionally manipulated, and continue to believe as such, because we have been taught NOT to THINK for ourselves.
