10-18 DinosaursCENTRAL POINT, Ore. — There's more than a few creatures roaring to life at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.
Animatronic dinosaurs are covering the grounds at the expo this weekend. And some of the replicas are hard not to be afraid of.
"Some of them are really loud and they're pretty realistic looking," said Event Organizer Danielle Arnold. "They breathe and their eyes blink and their mouths move, so it's pretty cool."
The tour takes visitors through the dinosaur life cycle from birth to extinction. Signs lining the path explain the time periods of each reptile and their diets. There are also interactive displays that are education oriented.
"We also have fossil digs so the kids can brush off and learn about how they discovered all the dinosaurs, but it's also fun," Arnold said.
The owners say some of the replicas are designed straight from fossil records.
"These two were found fighting that way in china, the actual fossils. And so we had that one made. Some people like paleontologists actually recognize it," the owner's son explained.
The Expo manager says there's been a lot of interest from people in and outside the Rogue Valley.
Preparation has been going on all day, but the organizers say they'll be ready to let visitors ride the T-Rex on Saturday.

Not much change is expected in the weather through much of next week with cool crisp mornings and warm dry afternoons. Areas of fog will develop overnight at the coast and in the morning for the river valleys including the Coquille and Umpqua Basins. If you've seen fog the last couple of mornings, you'll continue to see it through early next week. Fog may reduce visibility at times, mainly in the morning for inland areas, but overnight as well at the coast.
There's a full moon tonight and we'll have clear skies to see it in all it's brightness! Clear skies will help with viewing of the Orionids meteor shower Monday night, but the near full moon will impede viewing.
Continue to share your weather photos with me on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for logging on and have a great weekend!

MEDFORD, Ore. – ACCESS is trying to improve healthy eating in Southern Oregon by going after the area's so-called food deserts.
According to the USDA, nearly 9,000 people in Jackson County live in a food desert – mostly low-income areas with no healthy food within a mile radius.
Crystle Tracksler is one of those residents. She has been feeding her four children on snap benefits for 17 years.
"It's really easy if you're eating junk food," said Tracksler. "But to feed your children well-balanced meals it does become quite a bit of a struggle."
Most of Tracksler's fresh produce selection comes from a little basket in the Peach Street Market just a block or two away from her home.
The nearest supermarket is a two-mile trek, one that until recently she had to do without a car.
"We would have to make a whole day of going to get produce or dairy or meat or whatever it was," said Tracksler.
The result is that many like Tracksler who live in these food deserts tend to eat cheaper, more readily available junk food – and that has big consequences.
"There's a higher rate of obesity and diabetes in those communities, especially among kids," said Hannah Ancel, Food Systems Coordinator with ACCESS.
That's what the healthy corner store project is meant to fix. In year one, ACCESS will be partnering with two to three small corner stores – or convenience stores – throughout Medford, like the Peach Street Market.
Their role is to help those stores get a steady supply of healthy, affordable produce, and then convince nearby residents to buy it.
"When we eat a little bit better, we feel better," said Ancel. "That's the motion that we're going with is really trying to encourage people that they'll feel better."
Ancel expects a gradual takeoff, as many corner stores make most of their sales through junk food.
But Tracksler says as more Peach Street Markets expand their health-food selection, business will come.
"I think if there was a little bit more, then customers would just expand greatly," said Tracksler.

Fast-TrackMEDFORD, Ore. — National media is reporting the number of uninsured Oregonians is down 10% as a result of the Affordable Care Act. According to the Oregon Health Authority, that's not necessarily true.
That percentage number comes from the idea that the Oregon Health Authority sent out roughly 260,000 letters to qualifying residents and about 56,000 have responded so far. These letters are being sent to people who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits or receive health care benefits from the Oregon Healthy Kids Program.
The Fast-Track qualifiers get to skip some paperwork and enroll sooner because the Oregon Health Authority already has their income information from their participation in the other programs.
Some people getting SNAP and Oregon Healthy Kids Program benefits earn more money than the limits for the Oregon Health Plan. So, they won't qualify for Fast-Track enrollment.

ASHLAND, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff's deputies are now admitting there is a second suspect in the murder of Ashland resident Frank Damiano, and that suspect could have made it as far north as Washington.
Othon Campos Jr. is wanted in Damiano's murder, and is likely hiding out in the Portland / Vancouver area.
Earlier this week, a second suspect, Merlin Bound, was arrested in the case
Information isn't yet being released on how Campos and Bound carried out the homicide. But the announcement confirms testimony from bound's wife, Malinda, of Campos's involvement.
And according to her, it was Campos that was giving out the orders.
"He's a very terrifying person, and my husband felt very threatened for our family if he didn't comply with certain things," said Malinda.
Campos lived with Bound and his family in their home for two to three months in the past.
Sheriff's deputies say they believe he took a Greyhound bus to Portland immediately after the murder. They say he's likely on foot, and very familiar with the area.
"We don't have any way of knowing whether or not he's armed at this point, but he does have felony warrants for his arrest," said Detective Julie Denney with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. "So if anyone encounters him they should definitely call 911 as soon as possible."
Campos is charged with aggravated felony murder, felony murder, robbery, and burglary.
Law enforcement from every major agency in Southern Oregon continue to work the case. Now police in Portland have been notified and are on the lookout.
"Well we don't have any way of knowing what he may do in the future," said Denney. "But obviously the charges he faces right now are serious, so we want to get him into custody as soon as possible."

William Roy "Huey" Huson would have turned 59-years-old  October 20th. But he now leaves a widow behind after he was shot to death in the valley cab he drove for work on his 58th birthday.
"I always told him I love you god bless you and please be careful," says Susan Huson.
Almost a year has gone by and Medford Police haven't been able to name a suspect. His wife Susan Huson say's she'll never give up on finding who killed Huey.
"Whoever did this is going to get caught... i just want them to know that they're not going to get away with it."
That's why Huson organized a vigil for her husband, planned on the one year anniversary of his death,  Sunday at six in the evening.
The candlelight vigil will be held at the end of Helo Drive where Huson's body was found.
He was shot to death after picking up a passenger, his body dumped and cab stolen. Huson says after 62-year-old Frank Damiano from Ashland was murdered last week she can't help but wonder if Othon Robert Campos Jr, the man on the lose suspected of killing Damiano, is connected to the death of her husband.
"I have a feeling that that person that they're looking for just might be the person."
Police are not saying Campos is linked to Huson's murder. He was a frequent cab passenger and worked at Valley cab but not at the same time as Huson.
Still Huson's wife is tracking every lead and hopes someone at his vigil on Sunday may know something.
"Sunday is a celebration of him we're celebrating his life all over again we're having a candlelight vigil to remember the person he was."

A second suspect has been named in the homicide case of Ashland man Frank Damiano also known to many as Tony Dellapenna.
Earlier this week 34-year-old Merlin Bound the Third was arrested in connection with the case.
The second suspect has been identified as 41 year old Othon Robert Campos Junior.
Officials confirmed both Bound and Campos were roommates.
While the details of what happened remain sealed, investigators believe Campos has fled to portland.
Law enforcement in the Portland metro area have been alerted.
They don't believe he has a vehicle of his own and relies heavily on public transportation and taxi cabs.
Meantime, back in Southern Oregon the investigation is ongoing.
Investigators say once Campos is in custody they will release further details of the homicide.

Ashley Ensminger and Courtney Huston each had a kill, and Leah MacAdam registered a block during the run. The Miners went on to win, 25-15.
The second game was even more of a snoozer, with Yreka winning 25-11. Ensminger had three kills in the game. Currie added two more aces. Cota had two kills and a block. Rosa Rodriguez notched a kill, and MacAdam had a block. CV errors accounted for the rest of the points.
Errors defined the third game, as the Falcons took the win, 25-23.
Perhaps riding on a sense of accomplishment, Central Valley put up a fight for the first six points of the fourth game. Yreka, however, quickly set the record straight. A kill from Cota started a 9-0 run for a 15-6 lead. Ensminger took over during that time, with six kills, including four in a row. Rodriguez also had a kill in the run. Yreka went on to win the game 25-8, and the match 3-1.
Ensminger led the Miners in kills with 14. Cota had 9 kills, and four blocks. Currie registered a career-high 22 assists. MacAdam had 4 blocks. Bre Ruelas came up with 14 digs.
Yreka (3-0, 18-14-1) is at Anderson (1-1, 6-13) next Tuesday. Anderson played Corning on Thursday, but a result has not been posted top MaxPreps.

Scott Valley shines autumn. A beautiful are in the State of Jefferson. Post card perfect — Mel!
JD comment: Scott Valley is a 35-mile long mountain valley that is quite narrow – only a few miles wide. Alfalfa, grain and cattle pastures make up the middle flat-land. What is unusual is that the west side of the valley is heavily forested mountains with conifers; and the east side is dry with fewer conifers. Hence the big difference in some of the photos. I recognize many areas, some within a mile from my home, and this is indeed the heart of Scott Valley. -And the river that you see in a few photos is "Scott". – Admin Liz Bowen
From Mel:
Last Wednesday, October 16, 2013, I went out and about in Scott Valley photographing the fall colors. I started in the Fort Jones area then worked my way to Etna, then out to East Callahan Road and on south to Callahan, taking a couple of side roads along the way. It was a beautiful day with some unusual cloud formations.
On this outing I captured primarily the fall colors of the oaks. This weekend I should be getting into the yellow maples and some of other tree species.
Utilizing High Dynamic Range [HDR] aka "bracketing" photography made for crisp bright photos.
