Share on Facebook | Bulldog JVs defeat Etna, 35-8 Posted: 20 Oct 2013 04:32 PM PDT The Fall River Bulldogs junior varsity football team jumped out to a 14-0 lead over the host Etna Lion JVs in the first quarter on Friday, and went on to a 35-8 win. Jonathon Iniguez put Fall River on the board a little over two minutes into the game, on a 20 yard run. Iniguez also added the extra point for a 7-0 Bulldog lead. About two minutes later, it was 14-0 on a Brian Smith 1-yard run and an Iniguez kick. Iniguez connected with Thomas Markham for an 80-yard TD strike, and then added the PAT, 21-0. Iniguez scored on a 7-yard run, and booted the extra point, 28-0. Markham went 30 yards to pay dirt. With the PAT, it was 35-0. Etna broke the shutout in the final minute of the game on a 2-yard run by Robert Thom. Payton Dickinson ran for the 2-point conversion, making the final score 35-8 for the Bulldogs. Share on Facebook | Dawgs take a bite out of Lions Posted: 20 Oct 2013 09:23 AM PDT The Fall River Bulldogs opened their Shasta Cascade League campaign in grand style, defeating the Etna Lions 32-0 on Friday night at Duncan Field. Fall River started its first possession on its own 2o-yard-line, following Lukas Nadig’s touch back kickoff. A penalty moved Fall River back five yards, and Brennan Gilligan gained back two yards on a run. Etna seemed to have the Bulldogs collared, but that all changed on the next play, as Jace Neugebauer connected with a wide open Michael Westlund streaking down the field for an 83-yard touchdown strike. The PAT failed, but with less than a minute gone in the game, Fall River had a 6-0 lead. The Lions went nowhere on their first possession and were forced to punt. Fall River’s offense went back to work on its 39. An 18-yard run by Westlund gave the Bulldogs a first down at the Etna 43. JT Murray sacked Neugebauer for a loss of about five yards. Fall River gained just six yards on the next two plays, leaving them a fourth-and-nine from about the Etna 42. Under pressure from Marquis Pitts, Neugebauer tossed a rainbow towards Jonathon Westlund. Lion Zac Hansen deflected the pass, but Westlund managed to snag the ball on its way down, and advanced to Etna’s 5-yard-line. On the next play, Westlund took it the rest of the way, giving the Dawgs a 12-0 lead with 7:13 left in the opening frame. Etna stopped the 2-point conversion try. On their next possession, the Bulldogs started at their own 36-yard-line. They again converted on fourth down to gain a new series at their own 46. On third-and-eight, Neugebauer threw his second long TD pas of the night, this time to Tanner Gallion for 52 yards. The Lions denied the 2-point try, but the Dawgs had an 18-0 lead with 1:27 left in the first quarter. On the ensuing possession, Etna’s offense started to move. Helped by double digit runs from Marco Beltran, Wyatt Finley and Lukas Nadig, the Lions advanced to the Fall River 15. However, Etna gained just four yards on the next four plays and turned the ball over on downs at the Fall River 11. The squads exchanged punts on the next two possession, and Fall River wound up with the ball at its own 40-yard-line with 55.3 seconds left in the half. On the second play of the series, Hansen picked off a pass, and Etna’s offense set up shop at its 22, with 45.6 seconds to go. Lion Harrison Hogun picked up 22 yards on a run. Hogun then hit Nadig for 29 yards and a first down at the Bulldog 27, with :30.1 on the clock. Two plays later, a halfback pass to Hogun gave the Lions a first down at the 11-yard line. Hogun spiked the ball on the next play, leaving the Lions with 10 ticks to go. Etna had the momentum on its side and appeared to be about to get back in the game. Ten seconds and nearly 100 yards later, it was just the opposite, as Jonathan Westlund picked off a pass and went the distance, making it 24-0 as time expired in the half. Fall River converted the 2-point try to make it 26-0. The third quarter was mostly a stalemate, with the teams exchanging punts. Towards the end of the quarter, Nadig avoided a heavy rush and booted a 65-yard punt that seemed to have the Bulldogs pinned at their own 3-yard-line. However, Fall River played Houdini again, not only escaping but scoring on a Neugebauer to Jonathan Westlund 45-yard TD pass. Etna blocked the PAT, leaving Fall River with a 32-0 lead at the 10:36 mark of the fourth quarter. The score would not change again. Fall River (1-0, 4-3) goes to Modoc (0-2, 2-6) on Friday. Modoc was crushed by Weed (2-0, 6-2) in its last game, 62-20. Etna (1-1, 6-2) will look to get back on track at this Friday’s Homecoming against Burney (0-1, 0-7). Burney had a bye last week. Nearly 50 family, friends and members of the community gathered Sunday to remember the life of Valley Cab Drive Huey Huson. It was here at this location on Helo Road off of Vilas that Huson's body was found, now it's a place for those who loved him to gather and remember his life. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now | The Murder of Huey Huson One Year Later Posted: 20 Oct 2013 09:45 PM PDT MEDFORD, OR. — Sunday marks the one year anniversary of the brutal murder of Medford cab driver, William "Huey" Huson. Currently, the suspect remains unknown, as police continue the investigation. Huson was killed after picking up the suspect from Howie's On Front bar downtown Medford. Huson's body was later found in an open field near Helo Drive, while his cab was found miles away near Hawthorne Park. Huson died from a gunshot wound to the head. "You know my husband went to work and I said I love you, God bless you, and kissed him goodbye," said Huey Huson's wife Susan. That was one year ago Sunday night, and the last time Susan Huson would ever see her husband alive. On Sunday, friends and family held a candlelight vigil in his honor. Huson hopes by this time next year her husband's murderer will be behind bars. "I’m not going to rest until he is caught," said Huson. "He's not going to get away with it. I want him caught so bad it’s unbelievable." Medford police have received more than 350 tips regarding the case, but not one of them have led them to the killer. "There's a lot we have done over the last year, and unfortunately we do not have a suspect, but we do think we are just one good tip away from cracking this case wide open," said Medford Police Lt. Mike Budreau. Police said the case is tricky because the Huson had no ties to the unknown murder suspect. "When you don’t have that connection between the suspect and the victim it does complicate things," said Lt. Budreau. "It means we are going to have to solve the case through other means like forensic evidence or somebody is going to have to come forward and provide us with some information on the suspect." Police and Huson’s family are both frustrated with the investigation, but police said the case is far from cold. They’re just waiting for the right information to fall into the wrong hands. "I know he has bragged to somebody and that somebody has probably bragged to somebody else, and I think eventually the story is going to be told to the wrong person for him but the right person for us," said Huson. Anyone with information is urged to call Medford police. Huson’s widow plans on proposing a bill to state legislation called Huey’s law. This bill would make it mandatory for all cab drivers in the state to have cameras installed in their vehicles for safety purposes. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now | New Tech Used in Missing Person Search Posted: 20 Oct 2013 05:41 PM PDT MEDFORD, Ore. – The search for missing Phoenix resident James Lutter is now over after rescuers found his body in an embankment Southeast of Cottage Grove. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, which coordinated the search, is calling it a sad ending to an unprecedented, multi-agency effort. The search was conducted with new technology that rescuers say, in this case, helped bring closure to Lutter’s family, and in the future could save lives. The technology, a new "war room" called the Tactical Operations Center, is meant to improve monitoring and coordination in emergencies, investigations, or any time lives are at stake. “It just saves time, and it is going to save lives in the future,” said Jackson County Search and Rescue Supervisor Sgt. Shawn Richards. Jackson County is the first and only county in the state to use the system. It allows agencies to view leads and clues in real-time, see all information being released to the public, monitor phones, and even track agents in the field. “In any incident with real time information, literally minutes can save lives,” said sheriff’s office spokesperson Jenny Hall. “So this system is vital regardless of the incident we’re working.” In the case of Lutter's search, it was used between sheriff’s departments from three different counties as well as state police. Sheriff’s deputies say the technology helped them avoid searching the same areas twice. They say a faster search can’t always bring someone home, but it can bring faster closure, and they’re hopeful this new tool can help. “It’s very telling and it’s going to be successful,” said Richards. “It was a great help.” This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now | Another Beautiful Week Ahead Posted: 20 Oct 2013 05:27 PM PDT The fall-like weather will continue into this week with cool mornings and warm afternoons.
