Leaking At Hyatt Lake Dam

Posted: 27 Oct 2013 11:09 PM PDT

The Federal Bureau of Reclamation is trying to figure out what to do after observation shows Jackson County's Hyatt Lake Dam has been leaking water since 2009.

They say the options to fix the leak would be to keep the water at a level of  more then a third low or to install a filter system that could cost up to 3 million dollars.

Irrigation officials says losing some of the water level would likely not interfere with water supply for people in Jackson County during normal or wet years.

Depleted Miners fall to Central Valley, 49-6

Posted: 27 Oct 2013 10:33 AM PDT

Photos by Janine Turner

A depleted Yreka Miners squad fell to 1-2 in the Northern Athletic League and 5-3 overall, with a 49-6 loss to Central Valley on Friday night.

Yreka’s only score came on a 32-yard run by Gabe Durney in the fourth quarter.

Yreka is currently ranked 8th in NSCIF D-II playoff points. Despite the injury bug setbacks, the Miners appear to be in good shape to make playoffs. Number-nine Anderson is only 1-7 overall, and 0-3 in the NAL. Another win for Anderson seems highly unlikely, with West Valley this week and Central Valley in their NAL finale.

Tenth ranked Gridley is 2-5 and 0-4 in the Butte View League, with 5-3 Winters and 5-3 Wheatland left to play. Eleventh ranked Live Oak is 2-6 and 0-3 in the Sacramento Valley League, with 5-3 Pierce and 5-3 Durham left to play.

The Miners travel to Corning (2-1, 6-2)  this Friday. Corning defeated Anderson 42-7 last week.

Northern Athletic League standings

West Valley 3-0 (7-1)
Central Valley 2-1 (5-3)
Corning 2-1, (6-2)
Yreka 1-2 (5-3)
Lassen 1-2 (4-4)
Anderson 0-3 (1-7)
