There will soon be a few more deputies on patrol in Klamath County.

Four new deputies were sworn in by Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah Saturday morning.

The Sheriff says restoring patrols is a high priority...

"Because we need deputies on the street.  We need to protect our members of this community, and that was one of the cornerstones that I ran on, and one of the reasons they talked me into doing this."

The deputies sworn in include Jesse Ginestar, Ruben Jenkins, Joe Cardona, and Sondra Hamilton.

"It's something I've wanted to do for a long time."  Says Deputy Hamilton.  "And I finally have been given the opportunity to do so, and I'm excited for the future of the Klamath County Sheriff's Office."

Sheriff Skrah notes that he hopes to restore 24 hour patrols within 6 or 7 months...

"This community cannot continue the road it was going down.  It stopped, now we're turning it around."

The new hires will boost patrols from 12 to 16 deputies.

ASHLAND, Ore. — Austin Dodge threw five touchdown passes and Southern Oregon scored 55 unanswered points as the Raiders beat #18 MSU-Northern 55-28 Saturday at Raider Stadium. The game got off to an unusually slow start for the Raiders, who led just 10-7 at the half. SOU came out on fire in the third quarter though, scoring four touchdowns on its first five drives of the second half.
Dodge once again led the Raiders offense with 469 yards to go along with his five scores. The quarterback scared the SOU fans, though, suffering a lower leg injury in the third quarter. Dodge was visibly in pain and hobbled off the field several times in the second half, but he didn't come out of the game until the fourth quarter when the outcome was well in hand.
Dylan Young and Ryan Retzlaff were the top targets for Dodge on Saturday. They each had eight catches and two touchdowns and were over 160 yards receiving.
The SOU defense also had an outstanding game, racking up five sacks and three interceptions as held the Lights to just seven points through the first three and a half quarters.
The Raiders are back at home next week as they host Montana Western at Raider Stadium at 1:00 PM

10-19 jbo river cleanupGOLD HILL, Ore. – Volunteers and environmental groups are working together to clean up the Rogue River.
A group led by KS Wild launched rafts and scoured the banks of the river in Gold Hill Saturday for trash and pollutants.
Jim Modoff, a volunteer and recreational fisherman, says many of the fishing areas in Southern Oregon are becoming too polluted to fish.
"I just don't see the average person being aware that you just don't use this as a dump," said Modoff. "It's a nice place, let's keep it that way."
The event is the first time KS Wild has done an organized cleanup. But they intend for it to be the first of many, spanning a watershed that has a huge variety of ecosystems and pollution levels.
"There's really no clear picture that sums up the entire watershed. The rogue basin is 3.3 million acres," said Forrest English, Director of KS Wild's Rogue Riverkeeper program.
Restoring some of those well-traveled areas will take much more than picking up trash. Trees will need to be planted along waterways to restore shade. Sediment from logging roads and riverside properties will need to be reduced.
But English says this is a start.
"Getting the trash out of here is a great benefit," said English. "And I think it's also really valuable to get people down to the river and connect with the river so that we all can tangibly understand what clean water means to us as a community."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                               CONTACT: Kristen Osterholt, Executive Director

State of Jefferson continues to receive

support as movement grows

BIGGS, CA – In a standing room only crowd, Mike Wacker from the State of Jefferson Commission (Committee) discussed the benefits and challenges from withdrawing from California to the members of the Butte County Republican Party. "The size of the state is too unmanageable" says Wacker "Other counties including Modoc and Siskiyou have made their declarations, and we are diligently working to have it brought to the Butte County Board of Supervisors"

The Butte County Republican Party unanimously has approved the withdrawal and will be encouraging our Board of Supervisors to discuss and ultimately pass a similar declaration as our fellow northern counties have done. "California has been headed down the wrong path for several decades" says Chairman Michael Zuccolillo. "Sacramento continues to pass bills that restrict our way of life here in the north state, whether it's the illegal fire tax, transgender bathrooms, or over-reaching environmental laws, we have had enough"

"While the idea may be bold and extreme to some, it represents the discontent we feel up here. The idea of withdrawal isn't new and if it wasn't for the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 we may very well have had a new state".

There have been several attempts in addition to the State of Jefferson proposition, including a proposal by then Assemblyman Stan Statham to break the state into 3 states. The most recent State of Jefferson movement appears to share a broader acceptance than in the past.

style=With a win last week against Burney and a crushing defeat of the Modoc Braves on Friday night, the Weed Cougars have moved into first place in the Shasta Cascade League with a record of 2-0. Weed led from start to finish on the way to a 62-20 victory over the Braves
.
In just the first quarter, Cougar senior Rashaan Broomfield scored two touchdowns The first came on a hand off by senior quarterback Aidan Hagarty for a 20 yard run, and the second on a 47-yard interception return, putting the Cougars up 12-0. Hagarty ran for the 2-point conversion, making it 14-0.
Modoc capped a long drive on its next possession, with a touchdown to make it 14-6.
Cougar running back Trevor Shaffer quickly answered with a TD. Carlos Sanchez added the extra point bringing the score to 21-6, with 4:02 left in the first quarter.
The second quarter brought similar results for the Cougars, with Hagarty doing his best impression of Colin Kaepernick, as he scampered into the end zone with 7:37 left in the first half.
The Braves fought back with a touchdown pass, making the score 28-12.
Broomfield ran for his third tally of the night with 4:06 left to go before intermission to up Weed's advantage to 34-12 at the half.
Modoc came out in the second half with some spark, scoring a touchdown and 2-point conversion within the first three minutes, to close to within two touchdowns at 34-20. However, Modoc's quick score must have also lit a fire under the Weed defense, as the fired up Cougars would not yield another point the rest of the night.
Barely a minute after the Braves scored, Broomfield brought in another pass from Hagarty for a TD. Sanchez kicked the extra point, boosting the Weed lead to 41-20. Weed scored again with 4:07 left in the third quarter to extend its lead to 48-20.
The fourth quarter was completely dominated by the Cougars, as they added two more TDs and PATs, including Broomfield's fourth touchdown of the game for the 62-20 win.
Weed (2-0, 6-2) has a bye next week and will then travel to Fall River (1-0, 4-3). Fall River blanked the Etna Lions 32-0 on Friday night.
