Jefferson Declaration Posted: 02 Nov 2013 09:46 AM PDT State of Jefferson on CBS Sunday Morning Nov. 3, 2013 Posted: 01 Nov 2013 08:59 PM PDT Hi everyone. CBS Sunday Morning this Sunday Morning. Nov. 3, 2013 State of Jefferson!!! – Mark Baird, spokesman for Jefferson Declaration Committee | Op-ed from Sutter Spokesman Dave Bryan Posted: 01 Nov 2013 07:56 PM PDT “Don’t Tread On Us!” Published in Press-Democrat Oct. 30, 2013 Last week, over 200 highly motivated local residents met at The Embassy of Heaven campus to discuss plans to mobilize in support of “The Free and Independent STATE of JEFFERSON” in NorCal counties between Sacramento and Oregon. With run-away state spending, escalating taxes, oppressive regulations and radical liberalism destroying this great state, it’s time for “we, the people” to show up in the showdown and demand CHANGE!!! Many “Northerners” are bone tired of oppressive government bureaucracy, ever-increasing taxes and lack of representation for our values and our way of life! That’s why the rally cry for the State of Jefferson is, “Don’t Tread On Us!” We’re tired of our values and our freedoms being trampled on! And so, the new state is to be named after the Father of American liberties himself – Thomas Jefferson! Jefferson believed that government should be kept small, and should exist to SERVE THE PEOPLE! He championed the American Bill of Rights, and was a bold advocate of LOW TAXES and MINIMAL LAWS. Concerning taxes, Jefferson said, “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” Concerning the limits of government, he said, “A wise and frugal government shall restrain men from injuring one another, and LEAVE THEM OTHERWISE FREE to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement…. | |

Medford Oregon | KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2 Posted: 02 Nov 2013 09:30 AM PDT Latest Info on LAX Shooter Posted: 02 Nov 2013 12:27 AM PDT Author: Roma Villavicencio Medford, Ore. | School districts concerned about implementing Common Core Standards Posted: 01 Nov 2013 07:18 PM PDT Author: Natalie Hurd ASHLAND Kathi Bowen-Jones has taught English at Ashland High School for 31 years, but her lessons focus on a lot more than that. "In my heart I have always been educating a student for a promised life and life can have and will earn." But Bowen-Jones is concerned about the nation's newest educational initiative, Common Core; curriculum every child in 45 states will now be tested on. It's a test many agree is a lot harder that former tests, in New York only 31% of students passed. "You get kind of teary eyed when you think what is this? Is this some sort of tyranny that's coming down on our most important function, to educate the young?" Bowen-Jones and other educators in Southern Oregon don't argue, the common core standards promote problem solving and critical thinking. They are supposed to better prepare students for college. But college, or at least financial aid for it, is out of the question without a diploma. "The generational effects of not having a diploma are really significant." Ashland High School Principal, Michelle Zundel says starting next spring in Oregon, a diploma will depend on passing Common Core's Smarter Balanced Assessment. Students with disabilities will have a lower pass rate, and qualify for what's called a modified diploma. "The difficulty with a modified diploma is you're not qualified for federal assistance you can't go to the military." Oregon and California juniors will take the test next spring. And teachers are feeling the pinch. Making a situation more stressful, Medford teachers are now in their 8th month without a contract. This is also the first year of proficiency grading in Oregon, meaning daily work holds less weight than tests and projects. Also starting this year, High School students need to take three years of math, Algebra or higher in order to gradute. "I want to make sure every kid has hope for their future and even if they're not good at math they can be contributing members of society." But Zundel, and Debbie Connolly who's the head of curriculum for Medford Schools, say they're pulling out all the stops trying to do whatever they can to create safety nets for students. "They can take a double math class, double English class, summer school." Teachers like Bowen-Jones are trying to figure out how to give students practice tests. But she says it's hard because it seems like the leaders behind Common Core keep switching them up. "They always do better when they have practice on the exact format and I don't think we can deliver on that until the state says this is exactly what's going on." Bowen-Jones says it's watching students graduate and become whoever they're meant to be, that drives her. She just hopes the new test won't drive them toward failure. That's why she and other educators are scrambling to work with yet another standardized system. The state has not yet decided what qualifies as passing for the Smarter Balanced Assessment. | Residents Remain Vigilant as Police Search for Hit & Run Driver Posted: 01 Nov 2013 06:19 PM PDT Author: Christine Pitawanich Cave Junction The tight knit cave junction community is still reeling. It's been days since someone hit and killed two men in Cave Junction, then drove off. Residents in the small town still don't have answers. Early Wednesday morning a tan pick up truck crashed into them on Highway 199 early Wednesday morning. One of the men killed was 21-year-old Jarred Houston. "He was adventurous, fun loving, everybody loving [...] for him to be taken from us in this manner is just wrong," said Houston's family friend, Stacie Skinner. But even while police say they're no closer to finding the driver than a couple days ago, residents in the area are not giving up. Instead, they're keeping an eye out for the suspect's truck. According to a Facebook post, someone in the Illinois Valley may have spotted it. Just the other night a woman claims via Facebook that she was walking with her daughter when they saw a truck fitting the description released by authorities...with front end damage. "A tan truck with a tan [canopy] and a small red stripe down the side of it and front end damage came speeding towards my daughter and I. As soon as it reached us they slammed on their [brakes] and pretended to shoot us. They then pulled over behind us as I ran through the bushes with my kid. When I looked back they were headed down the road towards the trailer park behind shop smart," said Felicia Davis in a comment on Facebook. Oregon State Police say they're looking into this story and all possible leads. They're sorting through tips to figure out which ones are valid. There has been no word yet on the resident's potential truck spotting. Meantime, Houston's family friend says she has one message for the driver still out there. "Please, whoever you are, if you're involved, please come forward." If you spot the truck, described as a single cab tan pickup with matching canopy and front end damage, call police immediately. The Houston family has a donation account set up under the name "Jarred Houston" at the Washington Federal bank in Cave Junction. The money will go toward funeral arrangements. | Medford Man Stabbed During Domestic Dispute Posted: 01 Nov 2013 06:18 PM PDT Medford, Ore. Food stamps are being cut because a portion of the benefits ran out. But the affects the cuts may have, could go deep for families and communities. Josephine County is already struggling with some of the highest unemployment rates in the state, but now with the lack of food stamp money, the struggle may just be beginning. Food stamps - officially known as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, or "SNAP" - serves 47 million Americans. And overnight the program lost 5 billion dollars. "The effect on the community is going to be more significant than people realize," said Susan Scheufele, Program Manager at the Josephine County Food Bank. She sees first hand the problem of hunger in our area. The cuts that kicked in average $36 a month for a family of four and those dollars add up in more ways than one hungry family. "Josephine County stands to loose between 5 and 6 million dollars in economic revenue." Meaning that local grocery stores will loose out on nearly half a million dollars total every month. "Those food stamp dollars pay salaries in grocery stores," Scheufele said. Scheufele says there are 25,186 people enrolled in the SNAP program in Josephine County alone. While the food bank looks full, it's anything but. "Most of these boxes are empty. If you look around the base of the floor you can see what we have to offer, but the bottom line is we are out of donated food. Right now we are on an in and out basis." And it's now more than ever that they are hoping those who can help, will help. Zane Skeen was in court this morning asking for a new lawyer. 34 year old Zane Skeen says he's being denied access to police records, and says he wants a new attorney... "I've asked for everything, because I wanted to know what I'm being accused of. I know they say murder, or a heinous crime, or whatever bull**** they say on the news..." Skeen is accused of beating 65 year old Larry Wayne Clark to death in February of this year... "But I don't know the details." Claimed Skeen. "The facts of what the state has against me." Judge Cameron Wogan vouched for Skeen's attorney, and advised Skeen that 'It's not a good time to make a change." "That's going to cause a huge delay." Warned Judge Wogan. "Mister Studenberg, I can tell you, has practiced law here for many, many years." Despite Skeen's arguments, the judge ruled that he won't appoint Skeen a new lawyer...at least not for now. "I'm not telling you other than, that I'm not appointing a new attorney today." Ruled Wogan. "That's all I'm telling you." Skeen expressed his disappointment to our camera while leaving the courtroom... Skeen is married to 30 year old Jessica Tibbets, who was convicted in 2000 for her role in the brutal hatchet murder of her mother and step-brother. Tibbets was granted a conditional release from prison earlier this year as part of a 'second look' evaluation. | Car crashes into Phoenix home Posted: 01 Nov 2013 01:39 PM PDT Author: Jennifer Elliott Phoenix Police say a driver in a stolen car led officers on a chase through Phoenix-- that didn't end until the vehicle crashed into a home.
"I guess he came this way and then crashed right there," says Anna Parra, who lives at the house. She shows us the exterior damage, which may not seem too bad... "Ya right there," but inside, Parra shows us where her living room wall is now caved in, after police say a felon in a stolen vehicle crashed into their home following a chase through town.
"One of our deputies saw that vehicle..." comments Captain Monty Holloway with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.About 1:30 this morning, deputies spotted a stolen Medford car on North Phoenix and Fern Valley Road, "That vehicle was a 2007 Toyota," says Holloway. They attempted a traffic stop, but that's when they say the driver hit the gas, "There were speeds that range from 40 and higher," Holloway tells us.
Ultimately, crashing into this house on the corner of Rose and Oak streets in Phoenix. "Vehicle got out of control," Holloway explains.
38 year old Daniel Fullmer was arrested. Turns out, he's not only charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, but also felon in possession of a weapon. "We belief in this case it was a knife," says Holloway. Also, possession of a controlled substance, meth. Holloway says they're still investigating whether he was on the drugs at the time of the crash.
"I was scared and I was shaking. I was kind of frustrated," says Parra. For her, last night's crazy ride was a rude awakening, one she's grateful didn't end with anyone hurt.

KDRV Posted: 02 Nov 2013 09:26 AM PDT Unmarked Pills Found in Halloween Candy Posted: 02 Nov 2013 09:25 AM PDT REDDING, Calif. - A mother says she may have found “Molly” tablets, a pure form of the drug ecstasy, in her five-year-old daughter’s Halloween candy. “We dumped out the whole bag and we were going through, looking, making sure nothing was open,” says Alicia Segrest, a Redding mother. “My daughter picked it up and said ‘here’s some pills mom’ and I grabbed it," explains Segrest, whose 5-year-old girl uncovered the packet of pills. Segrest says the small baggie of unmarked pills was handed out during their night of going door-to-door for Halloween candy. Wondering what the pills were, Segrest snapped a photo, and posted it to Facebook. "Several people said it looked like molly," says Segrest. One of the tiny, potentially dangerous pills, packed in the baggie, could possibly be a more pure form of ecstasy. That thought frightens Segrest, “It's totally scary. It's a 5-year-old and if she was to take one of them, who knows what would happen. Death, you know, something horrible. And for it to be so easily handed off to a kid, it's not OK.” So the worried mother called Redding Police. “It's an innocent mistake, and throw them away," recalls Segrest, quoting the response she got from the officer she made the report to over the phone. Redding Police say they are investigating the potentially dangerous drugs. Segrest even gave officers the area where the pills were possibly handed out from. She just wants all parents to be cautious. “Parents need to actually check and make sure and not just let the kids eat the candy.” This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now | Parents Perform CPR to Save Baby’s Life Posted: 01 Nov 2013 07:43 PM PDT TRAIL, Ore. — A couple’s quick action is credited with saving their own baby’s life. For six years, the airport has used the Medford Police Department. But by making this switch, the airport is saving a little over 150 thousand dollars. The shooting at LAX has put travelers on edge but the airport director assures the community, the hired security guards will be licensed to carry fire-arms and will have gone through training. “It’s not as extensive as police officers but police officers have to break down doors and fight crime all over, while this is limited jurisdiction. But they’re well trained for what we’re going to have them do,” explained airport director, Bern Case. That suspect apparently ran into the victim going opposite directions. Police say witness testimony hasn’t allowed them to figure how the fight started. The Department of Fish and Wildlife calculates this is the fifth time a bear was reported in Jackson County in October, and the 53rd time this year. Ashland police say this particular bear was reported making its way through six neighborhoods Halloween night. Doug Ham, who manages the Wingspread Mobile Home Park, says he actually saw that bear, or a similar one, on Wednesday. "One of my neighbors said, ‘Doug, by the way, you have a bear in your back yard,'" said Ham. "So I looked and sure enough…" Ham says the bear wasn't behaving aggressively in any way, something experts say is usually the case. "We’ve never had a bear attack anyone in Oregon," said ODFW Wildlife Biologist Rosemary Stussy. "They’re not aggressive, they just want the food." When food is scarce, it isn’t unusual to see bears searching neighborhoods for fruit or trash out in the open. But according to Stussy it has been less common this year than in the past. She says that isn't necessarily because there are fewer bears, but more likely because people are following basic advice. "Put your trash can in the garage. Take down your bird feeder when the bear comes, don’t leave your pet food out," said Stussy. Ashland police say the bear wasn't harmed in this case. In fact, they just advised residents to leave it alone.
